The Benedictine School

Sister Jeannette Murray, O.S.B.

The Benedictine School
Executive Director and Co-Founder

Executive Director and Co-Founder Sister Jeannette Murray has led the Benedictine School with enthusiasm, love and determination for the last 50 years shepherding the lives of both special needs’ students and their families.  From her executive director tasks to her role as dorm mother, Sister Jeannette’s passion and dedication affects the lives of the Benedictine School’s students and adults daily. Since she co-founded the Benedictine School in 1959 she has guided and nurtured more than 1000 students. Her “won’t take no for an answer” attitude has helped the school become a state-of-the-art educational environment and also a spiritual place that brings inspiration and hope to students and families.

After taking her vows in the Order of St. Benedict and earning a B.A. and M.A. in special education from Seton Hall University and Cardinal Stritch University, Sister Jeannette taught in parochial schools for seven years before co-founding the Benedictine School.  Her most recent accomplishments include leading the charge for the school’s therapeutic aquatic center and spearheading a $10 million campaign for capital projects and to increase and stabilize the school’s endowment. Additionally, Sister Jeannette’s vision for the next five years includes the building of a senior care center.  Due to her work for individuals with developmental disabilities, Sister Jeannette has received numerous awards and honors including the Jessie Ball duPont Lifetime Achievement Award, Maryland House of Delegates Award, Special Olympics Award and the Maryland Association of Non-Public Special Education Facilities Award.
