The annual Chrome City Ride was founded, and is still produced, by a committee of dedicated volunteers, many of whom are from the law enforcement community. Police officers continue to be an important part of the Ride’s success. Sister Jeannette Murray, O.S.B., Executive Director of the Benedictine School, is an honorary Maryland State Trooper herself. “It is just amazing to us,” said Sister Jeannette, “that these people devote their careers to public service, keeping us safe every day, and still have the time, energy and love to work and plan and come here to help us. We are blessed by every single person who comes here by motorcycle or car, and by all our sponsors, too. It is our wonderful volunteers who make it all happen.” To participate in the Chrome City Ride, motorcyclists and custom car enthusiasts gathered at various registration points throughout the area and rode in convoys with police escorts to the Benedictine campus in Ridgely. For their $25 registration fee, the riders received a T-shirt, a catered lunch, entertainment, prizes, and an opportunity to show off their awesome “chrome.” A major part of the event’s success is the generosity of the many donors and sponsors the committee has drawn to the Chrome City Ride. A listing of these sponsors can be found below. In total, seven Chrome City Rides have now raised more than $625,000. Sister Jeannette’s dream is to be sure that the entire lives of the many kids she has nurtured will be secure and fulfilling, so the proceeds from this year’s Ride will go to developing a state-of-the-art, universal design home for older persons with disabilities. The real heart of the Chrome City Ride, though, is the excitement, appreciation and love that is so evident between the children and adults of Benedictine and the Riders who mean so much to them. “I wish you could’ve seen these kids at breakfast this morning,” said Sister Jeannette. “This is their favorite day of the year, and we all look forward to having these special friends come here for a wonderful day together.” SPONSORS OF CHROME CITY RIDE VII
