The Kids Win Again with the Sixth Annual Chrome City Ride

Children and adults with developmental disabilities at the Benedictine School are blessed with a great many friends who roared into this normally quiet, rural campus on Sunday, September 9th, and helped to raise over $120,000 to improve the lives of these kids.  More than 100 of these friends arrived in colorful, stylish classic cars and custom street rods; 500 more rode awesome, rumbling motorcycles.  All of that impressive chrome came together in response to the planning and hard work of a dedicated group of volunteers from state and local law enforcement who care about this wonderful cause.

“The Chrome City Ride Committee is the most incredible group of people,” said Benedictine’s Director, Sister Jeannette Murray, O.S.B.  “They’ve brought all their energy and organizational skills together for six years now because they believe in Benedictine and care about our kids.”  Visitors to Chrome City Ride can immediately see that the kids care about the riders, too; they’re so excited to have bikers, drivers, friends and family of all ages – all coming to their party.

The riders came from all over Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, gathering at six designated locations, to cruise in convoys to the Benedictine School.  For a $25 contribution, each rider received an official ride T-shirt, catered lunch, entertainment by Big Daddy "P" Productions, a chance for prizes and trophies, and a day of fun showing off their “chrome” to an appreciative crowd.  “Elvis” (in the person of impersonator Jim Godbold) was a big hit with the crowd as always.  Many businesses and individuals from around the region provided generous sponsorships for the event, and everybody had a great day exceeding the goal of $100,000. We can hardly wait for next year!
