A Clinical Resource Center is a physical environment designed to meet the clinical needs of individuals with multiple disabilities.
This environment is specifically designed to allow clinical services to be presented in an integrated manner and in an area in which a variety of resources and equipment are available. The environment allows Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy services to be delivered individually or in conjunction with each other depending on the student’s needs, in an effort to treat the “whole person”.
The environment is specifically designed with an inside gait training path that extends around the entire first floor. This allows individuals who are working on improving their ability to ambulate a continuous path, thus providing them with an interruption-free exercise area.
Adjacent to the gait training path are individual therapy rooms which allow therapists to work with individuals or small groups, or to conduct evaluations in a secluded, quiet environment. The therapy rooms also serve as the therapist’s office – which is in close proximity to the other therapists – thus encouraging collaboration and a co-operative working environment.
The therapeutic Pod is centrally located – each therapy room has direct access to the Pod, which is located in the center of the first floor. The Therapeutic Pod is a large area which allows for co-treatment and supports the integration of Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy and Speech & Language Therapy.
The Clinical Resource Center is a physical environment based around the concept of treating the “whole person” using a collaborative, integrated service delivery model.
