Funded by a lead grant from the United States Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration,

the purpose of the “Realizing One’s Potential” project is to create and manage 10 new job training and employment areas that will provide 75 to 100 young adults with developmental disabilities the new skills that will lead to supportive and competitive employment opportunities.  These training/employment areas are in addition to current areas already being managed at Benedictine and include:

  • Professional screen-printing operations
  • State-of-the-art computer graphics and design services
  • Embroidery services
  • Horticulture services
  • Color copying
  • Commercial printing
  • Pad printing of promotional items
  • Mail order fulfillment
  • Food preparation and serving
  • Landscaping

Project Goals and Objectives

Goal: Develop appropriate staffing levels
Objective: Recruit/appoint Project Director, Job Development Specialist, and two Client Trainers

Goal: Define skill sets required for each of the 10 training/employment areas to be created
Objective: Conduct comprehensive assessments on each of the 10 training/employment areas and define the requirements for success in each of the areas

Goal: Assure appropriate and safe environment for clients with disabilities
Objective: Identify, purchase and install adaptive equipment for client needs

Goal: Identify, assess and enroll target audience
Objective: 75 to 100 clients to be enrolled

Goal: Train target audience
Objective: 75 to 85 complete training

Goal: Assure need for the services and products generated by the new training/employment areas – Part I
Objective: Develop informational brochures featuring services and products created by clients, plus press releases.  Presentations to business/civic organizations and coordinate activities with local Workforce Investment Board

Goal: Assure need for services and products generated as a result of these new training/employment opportunities – Part II
Objective: Create/promote web site featuring services and products created by clients. This web site will be up and running in Year 1 of the grant. It will be updated and refined in Year 2 of the grant.
